🌊 Grand-Bassam – Beach & Colonial Heritage

Just a short drive from Abidjan, Grand-Bassam offers one of the most beautiful coastal settings in the region. Lined with palm trees and accompanied by the soothing sound of the Atlantic, the beach has a peaceful, almost timeless atmosphere – a perfect place to unwind.

Grand-Bassam is also rich in culture: its historic quarter with colonial architecture is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walking through these streets feels like stepping back in time, creating a fascinating contrast with the relaxed tropical surroundings.

We recommend spending one or two nights here to fully experience its unique charm. We're happy to suggest a suitable hotel.

During the week, the beach is often quiet and nearly empty – ideal for long walks, relaxation, or simply enjoying the ocean. On weekends and religious holidays, it becomes more lively, mostly with local visitors gathering to enjoy the seaside. This is exactly what makes the experience feel so authentic.

Grand-Bassam is more than just a beach – it's a blend of nature, history, and atmosphere best experienced for yourself.

🌿 Lagune Bini – a nature escape in the heart of Cocody

Lagune Bini in Cocody is a small, often overlooked retreat away from the bustle of Abidjan. Surrounded by tropical vegetation and calm waters, it offers a peaceful, almost meditative atmosphere.

You can sign up on-site for a guided tour: explore the surrounding nature, learn about cassava farming and traditional palm wine production, and enjoy a boat ride on the lagoon.

A perfect spot to experience a quieter, more authentic side of Abidjan.

🎶 Chez Ambroise – Local Cuisine & Open-Air Shows

Chez Ambroise is a charming open-air restaurant with a warm and lively atmosphere. On Friday and Saturday evenings, the stage comes alive with something close to a variety show: live music, dance, and impressive performances.

After the show, a small collection is passed around – a friendly and informal way to support the artists.

You can also enjoy delicious local cuisine at very reasonable prices. An authentic place to experience Ivorian culture, energy, and hospitality.

🌃 Abidjan at Night – vibrant and full of energy

After sunset, Abidjan reveals a different side: the city comes alive with bars, music, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

There is also a small and discreet gay scene. For those who wish to explore it, it offers interesting places and encounters off the usual path. Fidel knows the scene well and can guide you to the right spots.

Whether you're looking for a relaxed evening or a lively night out, Abidjan at night is an experience not to be missed.

🏛️ Day Trip to Yamoussoukro – between grandeur and calm

About three hours from Abidjan lies Yamoussoukro, the political capital of Côte d'Ivoire – a striking contrast to the energy of the city.

You can get there in different ways: by bus, for an authentic and slightly adventurous experience, or more comfortably with a private driver (around €120 for the full day).

Once there, you'll find a surprisingly surreal setting, with wide avenues and very little traffic. Highlights include the world's largest basilica, the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, and the impressive Presidential Palace.

A trip to Yamoussoukro feels like stepping into a different world – quiet, spacious, and remarkable in scale.

🏊‍♂️ Pools in Abidjan – refreshing in style

Abidjan offers a variety of great swimming pools, perfect for relaxing or taking a break from the city's energy.

  • The pool at Hôtel Ivoire is one of the most well-known – spacious and full of character.
  • At the Golf Club, you'll find a calmer, greener setting – our personal favorite.
  • The university pool is a simple and more local, authentic option.

Whether you're looking for something elegant or laid-back, Abidjan has plenty of spots to cool off.

☕ Bushman Café – Art, Culture & Cuisine in Cocody

The Bushman Café in Cocody (Riviera 4) is one of the most unique spots in Abidjan. It's not just a restaurant, but also an art gallery, boutique hotel, and creative meeting place. From the moment you walk in, you're immersed in a surreal atmosphere filled with lush plants, sculptures, and African artwork.

The vibe is relaxed, inspiring, and international—a place where travelers, artists, and locals come together. Evenings are especially enjoyable on the rooftop terrace, sometimes with music or small events.

On the culinary side, Bushman Café offers Ivorian cuisine with a modern twist, highlighting local products such as cocoa and chocolate.

In short: more than a restaurant, it's an experience—creative, vibrant, and a must-visit in Abidjan.
